Certificate application - SSL123 certificates

This form will allow you to apply for a Thawte digital certificate and have us (Herald Information Systems) invoice you in your local currency, by email or post. You will be able to choose whether you want to pay by cheque, bank transfer or purchase order - you will be paying us directly rather than paying Thawte. (If you want to pay by credit card, you will need to go to this page).

This form is ONLY for use if you wish to buy an SSL123 certificate -- if you want to buy an Extended Validation certificate please use this form and if you want to buy any other type of certificate (standard certificate or wildcard certificate), please use this form instead.

Any fields with a ** alongside them are mandatory fields - you must fill these in or we will not be able to process your request! If you have any trouble filling in the form, please let us know, or call us on +44 (0) 20 8394 2288, and we will be happy to help you.

Please choose your certificate

Choose your certificate ** Type of certificate Certificate validity Description
SSL123 Certificate Valid for 1 year from date of issue:
£100
This certificate includes information about the server name being secured, but not about the organisation to whom the domain belongs. It is (generally) quicker to issue than the Thawte Extended Validation certificates, standard certificates or wildcard certs (all of which require the organisation to be authenticated as well as the server). It is especially suitable for use on an intranet or extranet, where those connecting will already know the identity of the organisation to whom they are connecting, but require the connection to be encrypted. It provides the same level of security as the Thawte standard certificates. (want to know more?)

All prices exclude VAT at the current rate (20%).

  • If you are in the UK: we will charge you VAT
  • If you are outside the UK: we will not charge you VAT

Your server software

Why is this important?

Please choose your server software from the drop-down list below.

Your Certificate Signing Request

Why is this important?

How do I get one of these?

Please cut and paste your Certificate Signing Request (CSR) into the box below. Please make sure that you include all the lines of the request; this means the lines of dashes which say "BEGIN" and "END", too.

Please note that the public key in your CSR MUST be at least 2048 bits long.

Information about your organisation

While an SSL123 certificate, as issued, does not contain information about the organisation using it -- i.e. Thawte does not authenticate the organisation details -- they still request the organisation's name and address for their records.

Please fill out the organisation details below. This does not necessarily need to be the same address or department to whom we will send the invoice; we will ask you for those details lower down the page.

Address: **

Contacts

We need two contact people from the organisation on whose behalf we will be requesting the certificate.

The authorising contact is the person who Thawte will contact if they have any questions relating to the verification of the certificate. (Typically this person may be called if there is no response to the authorising email within a few days, for instance.)

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY:

The email address for this contact MUST be either:

  1. an email address which appears in the WHOIS lookup for the domain under which the certificate is being requested, or:
  2. a "role account" email at the domain, chosen from the drop-down list below.
(Please note that as of 4th March 2010, the list of allowed addresses has changed.)

You CANNOT use an email address under a different domain unless it appears in the WHOIS lookup for the domain (and note that since the introduction of GDPR in 2018, very few domains will have visible email addresses in WHOIS any longer).

Note that .co.uk and .org.uk domains do not have any email addresses listed in their WHOIS lookup; if you are requesting an SSL123 certificate under a .co.uk or .org.uk domain, you can ONLY use a role account email at the domain concerned.

If you cannot use this method of authentication, it may be possible for you to use DNS or file authentication instead. Please contact us to discuss this.

Or, from WHOIS:

The technical contact is usually the person who will be installing the certificate. This is the person to whom we will email the certificate once it has been issued. The technical contact will also be the person we contact in the first instance if we find any problems with your application before it is submitted to Thawte.

The technical contact does not have to work for the organisation in whose name the certificate is being requested.

Tick the box if the administrative and technical contact details are the same:

If you have purchased certificates from us previously and the invoicing details are the same as for that order, then you do not need to repeat them here (but please let us know the purchase order number if we need to quote one on our invoice). If you are going to send us a purchase order immediately (POs should be emailed to purchases@herald.co.uk) then please quote the number below and we will take the invoice details from the PO when it arrives.
